Pupil barrister Jiea Tan secures an acquittal for a defendant charged with assault

Pupil Barrister Jiea Tan, instructed by JS Defence Solicitors, secured an acquittal for a defendant charged with assault by beating at Croydon Magistrates’ Court.

The case concerned an incident on 15 March 2025, during which the defendant was alleged to have punched the complainant during an argument. A key witness for the Crown, a Police Officer claimed to have seen the defendant on top of the complainant delivering punches. However, under cross-examination by Ms Tan, it emerged that the officer may have been mistaken in his observations.

The lay bench ultimately found the defendant not guilty.
