Jiea accepts instructions in criminal defence, family and civil matters.
Prior to commencing pupillage at Nexus, Jiea worked as a paralegal at a boutique criminal law firm, where she managed a substantial Crown Court caseload. Her experience included assisting on serious and complex matters such as attempted murder, s.18 grievous bodily harm and sexual offences. In this role, she worked closely with a wide range of clients, including vulnerable individuals, youths and those experiencing significant mental health difficulties.
During pupillage at Nexus, Jiea assisted in the preparation of several matters before the Court of Appeal, including the appeal of Colin Campbell’s conviction led by Michael Mansfield KC.
Jiea is recognised for her ability to build strong rapport with both professional and lay clients. She approaches each case with meticulous preparation and care, presenting matters with clarity and precision. Professional clients have commented that her ability, professionalism and maturity at the Bar far exceed her year of call, describing her as “unfailingly dependable”.
Outside of practice, Jiea enjoys playing classical music and performs on the piano, violin and double bass.
Criminal Law
Jiea has a busy practice in both the Crown Court and the Magistrates’ Court, and is regularly instructed in appeals to the Crown Court.
R v BJ – Willesden Magistrates’ Court – Secured an acquittal following a trial for an offence under section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986.
R v CHM – Croydon Magistrates’ Court – Successfully defended a trial for assault by beating against the client’s former partner, resulting in a full acquittal.
R v SB – Isleworth Crown Court – Successfully secured a suspended sentence for the client’s second conviction for possession with intent to supply cannabis.
R v UB – Snaresbrook CC – successfully advanced exceptional circumstances on behalf of a defendant facing sentence as a third-strike offender for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. Client received a sentence of two years’ imprisonment, substantially below the mandatory minimum that would otherwise have applied.
Appeals
R v CG – Lewes Crown Court – Successfully appealed against sentence on behalf of a client who was a new driver, avoiding revocation of his licence and the requirement to retake his driving test.
R v EB – Kingston Crown Court – Successfully advanced an exceptional hardship argument in a driving matter appeal, preventing the client’s disqualification under the totting-up provisions.
Family Law
Jiea is regularly instructed in a broad range of family matters, including applications under the Family Law Act, injunctive relief, and children law proceedings.
RW v CD – Successfully obtained a Non-Molestation Order for the client following a fact-finding hearing.
CK v KE – Successfully obtained a Non-Molestation Order.
MZ v IE – Successfully obtained a Non-Molestation Order.
