Jemi Akin-Olugbade Secures Acquittal of Gangland Attempted Murder

11.05.2023

Following a six-week trial, a jury acquitted Jemiโ€™s client of attempted murder and ancillary charges of grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. The allegations concerned a gang-motivated daylight shooting in which the target was crashed into while riding a moped on a busy main road and then shot. The crash, the shooting and the aftermath were all captured on CCTV.

The prosecutionโ€™s case was that Jemiโ€™s client directed the three-man team. The accusation was that Jemiโ€™s client and two others travelled in a stolen Range Rover on false plates, wearing balaclavas and gloves and armed with a loaded shotgun for the explicit purpose of murdering a gang rival.

Although Jemiโ€™s client accepted association with the two other men and admitted his knowledge of the shotgun, as well as his presence in the vehicle and his flight from the scene, Jemiโ€™s clientโ€™s innocence of involvement in the plan and possession of the weapon was established successfully. Consequently, Jemiโ€™s client was found not guilty of all charges.

The co-defendant at trial was convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. The third man was never identified and remains at large.
