With great sorrow, we announce the death of Pamela Lawrence, who died on 13th October 2021. Pamela was called to the Bar in 1975 and became one of the first black female heads of chambers. Pamela began life at the Bar in general common law before specialising in family law, and she was in practice doing what she loved until her unexpected demise. Pamela was one of the founding members of Nexus Chambers and instilled within chambers the values of opportunity, inclusivity and justice that she held dear the entirety of her distinguished professional career. Pamela was a one off. She was passionate and loyal with boundless integrity and incomparable verve.
We remember her principled grace, her generosity of spirit, her unique voice, and her impeccable style. We are heartbroken. Our deepest condolences go to her family. Pamela was a pioneer, a credit to the Bar and to all of us who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will be greatly missed.
