PUPILLAGE 2021-22

We have recruited our pupils to commence in April 2021 and October 2021.

PUPILLAGE 2022-23

Our recruitment of pupils to commence in 2022 will follow the Bar Council’s Pupillage Gateway timetable.

Due to the impact of the pandemic we have decided to defer the recruitment of our 2022 starting pupils until the 2021-2022 Pupillage Gateway round.

Applications will be considered in accordance with our Pupillage Policy Document, which is available to download from the policies section of our website.

All of our pupillages are advertised on the Pupillage Gateway and we will accept applications in 2021 through the Bar Council’s Pupillage Gateway website.

We are firmly committed to the principles of Equality & Diversity and Fair Recruitment & Selection.

Who we are

Nexus, the Chambers of Michael Mansfield QC, is a dynamic and progressive barristers’ chambers situated at The Barbon Building, 14 Red Lion Square, London. We are committed to justice, human rights, and the rule of law. Our 40 members (including six QCs) practise across a broad range of specialisms including: crime; regulatory; inquiries and inquests; administrative and public law; personal injury; family; and housing.

What we are looking for

We encourage applications from suitably qualified candidates, including those yet to undertake the BPTC. We require a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree classification.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate:

What we offer

We have already recruited our 2021-2022 pupils. Due to the impact of Covid-19 and the uncertainty that it has caused, we have decided to defer until 2021 the recruitment of our pupils who will commence in 2022. Therefore we will not be recruiting pupils this year. In the last three years, four of our pupils have gone on to become tenants of Nexus, although we have no fixed number of tenancy positions for pupils per year. Our pupils commencing in 2021 will be paid £20,000 which comprises an award of £10,000 in first six and guaranteed minimum earnings of £10,000 in second six. Most of our pupils are able to comfortably exceed this in second six.

How to apply

Our pupillage vacancies are advertised on the Pupillage Gateway and we plan to accept applications for pupillage commencing in 2022 through the 2021 Pupillage Gateway and in line with the Bar Council’s Pupillage Gateway timetable. We will require at least two supporting references. Full details of our pupillages can be found in our Pupillage Policy Document (which can be downloaded from our website) and on the recruitment page of our website.

We are firmly committed to the principles of Equality & Diversity and Fair Recruitment & Selection.

Applicants are specifically asked not to telephone chambers

Should an essential query arise, please direct it to recruitment@nexuschambers.com. However, we ask applicants to please refrain from contacting us unless it is absolutely necessary – the administrative burden associated with conducting a pupillage recruitment exercise is already a high one.

We regret that we are unable to provide feedback to applicants who have been unsuccessful at the paper-sift stage.
